Rawhide 15-Hole Shamanic Style Drum Making with Susan Cross

May 23, June 27, July 25, August 22, September 26, and October 249:00am – 5:00pm

Susan Cross is an artisan, crafts woman and celebrant who has been creating and leading ceremonies for over twenty years. During this one day workshop participants will make a 16-inch elk rawhide drum and beater. 15-hole drums make a beautiful 5 spoked handle instead of the 4 spoke cross of a 16-hole drum. Elk drums can carry the spirit of Elk which resonates with strength, stamina, endurance and patience. An elk-hide drum can help us with all the things in life that require those qualities—love, grief, self-understanding, transitions. Elk hide drums have a deep low quality to their sound.

Course fee of $265 includes instruction, all materials, beverages and snacks. (lunch is on your own)

Rawhide Rattle Making: Exploring the Potent Power of Ancient Percussion

July 17th - 19th or August 14th - 16th.3:30pm Wednesday- Noon Friday

Through the craft of shaping a rawhide rattle we’ll take a journey exploring the nature of percussion and how it was used by different cultures across time. From shamanic traveling, to creating subtle energy fields with stone, to calling in rain—from joyful celebrations to healing and protection strategies— simple percussive instruments such as rattles, drums, and sticks have always been a part of our heritage as human beings.

Lead by Susan Cross, Celebrant, who has been creating and leading ceremonies for over twenty years. Susan was drawn to ceremonial work because of her deep and abiding respect for the power of ritual, the joy that comes from interacting with people on a soul level.

Each participant will make a red deer rawhide rattle and fill it with specially collected “spirit sounders” that will carry the individual’s and the landscape’s singular and extraordinary heart. If desired, participants can paint a totem animal or spirit guide on their rattles.

Course fee of $285 includes wine and cheese reception, lunch on day 2, instruction and materials.  Reservations and payment must be 2 weeks in advance prior to the start date of the workshop and is non refundable.

Not included: travel, accommodations and meals (other than lunch on day 2).
